You will be delighted to hear that you do NOT have to learn Sargam (Indian Classical Music) to learn to play/sing chants from your favorite Western Kirtan Artists like Krishna Das and Snatam Kaur.

You will also be glad to know that you do not have to learn to read or understand Western music to learn to chant using our system.

There are many “junker” harmoniums on the market! Trying to chant on a bad/broken harmonium is like trying to ride a bike with two flat tires—so frustrating. If you have a “junker” you will unfortunately spend so much time, energy, and attention fighting the instrument that it will be challenging to learn, and difficult to enjoy your chanting practice.

You will need access to a harmonium, keyboard or piano to participate.

If you play guitar and know basic chords, you can also enroll in this program. However, there will be no guitar instruction during this class.

Our Level 1 programs are the prerequisite for advanced Kirtan training programs. If you have extensive musical experience, or have been chanting with others for some time, reach out to Mike at [email protected] to find out how you can satisfy this prerequisite through private sessions and jump ahead into a Level 2 program. The number of private sessions needed will be assessed on a case by case basis.
